distinguished guests who discussed some of the key topics facing consumers and regulators today:
- whether the EU has a truly European market for retail financial services yet, looking in particular at the EU passporting regime for financial products and services;
- how Big Data is revolutionising the way products and services are marketed; and
- challenges for supervision, as new EU consumer protection requirements on information for retail consumers, sales incentives and the remuneration of sales staff, are about to enter into force
Consumer and investor protection is a common statutory objective of the three ESAs - the European Banking Authority (EBA), the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA). The Joint ESAs Consumer Protection Day aims to gather consumers, regulators and industry participants together to discuss consumer protection-related issues in the financial services area.
